Our room-by-room spring-cleaning guide breaks down your annual deep clean into more manageable, daily tasks.

Spring cleaning and refreshing your home go hand in hand. The season of renewal is upon us and it’s the perfect time for a more vigorous scrub down as you prepare your home for its annual deep spring clean.

Spring cleaning is about decluttering and working to make the most of your space—along with tackling chores we’ve been neglecting. Transitioning your home out of winter and getting your home in order from floor to ceiling may seem like a daunting task mainly because many of us don’t know where to begin. We did the dirty work and simplified your spring-cleaning routine with a comprehensive checklist that breaks cleaning down room by room so your home will be sparkling before you know it.

Make a Checklist

A checklist will help you stay focused and avoid diversions, like redecorating instead of cleaning, and help you stick to your spring-cleaning schedule until the end. It will also help you keep track and streamline tasks, which will result in you cleaning more efficiently.

While the needs of every home will vary, our checklist is a great starting point and helps break down big cleaning tasks into more manageable parts. Clean more productively by dedicating chunks of time to cleaning. Creating a realistic spring-cleaning schedule is key to seeing this list through, even if that means spacing these tasks over the course of a few days or weeks. Depending on your schedule, decide if it makes more sense to tackle a room a day or tackle two to three tasks per day. Use the boxes to check off what’s complete so you can easily keep track of your progress and use the empty boxes to add other cleaning chores that suit your needs. Just download and print to start keeping track of your spring-cleaning journey.

As you prepare to dive into your deep clean, it’s important to take a close look at all your cleaning supplies before you begin. Look under your sink and take note of your all-purpose cleaners, cleaning cloths, sponges, scrubbers, and dusters. If they are in bad shape, it’s best to replace them before you begin your deep clean, otherwise, you’ll just be pushing old dust and dirt around and not actually cleaning anything. You can also use our checklist to keep track of your cleaning supplies and make a note of what you need to buy.

To help make cleaning a bit easier as you move from room to room, create a portable cleaning station using a sectioned caddy to keep often-needed supplies easily accessible. For a larger yet portable solution to help you zip from room to room, a rolling cart has plenty of storage space for cleaning supplies both big and small.

Have a Donation Box

Another tip before you begin cleaning is to set up a donation box for any outgrown clothing or unwanted items that you can take to a local charity. As you declutter and reorganize everywhere from your medicine cabinet to the pantry, be sure to pick functional organizers that will simplify your every day and reduce clutter. It also makes sense to keep another box handy for all items that may need to be repaired, such as replacing old batteries in toys. Don’t stop cleaning to tackle inevitable side projects. Instead, set them aside and tackle those projects when you complete your cleaning list.

The hardest part of any house project is getting started. If getting started is where you struggle, put on that audiobook, jam out to your favorite artist, or call that friend you’ve been meaning to catch up with and you’ll be pleasantly surprised how fast cleaning time flies.

Now that you have all the tools needed to get started, it’s time to tackle that checklist. Your spring-cleaning journey awaits!
